Level 4

Advanced Short Form

In advanced game based improv you'll begin to explore not just what is funny but why and how? You've learned the rules... now it's time to reexamine them, flip them on their head, or even throw them out.

Short Form Master Certificate The Short Form Master Certificate recognizes completion of the full ComedySportz curriculum. You've mastered game structure, character, heightening, and the mechanics of competitive short-form play — from your first class through to the advanced level.

Musical Track

Musical improv brings together performance and music in a way that is both playful and surprising. Whether you have a background in singing or simply a curiosity to try something new, these classes explore how songs, rhythm, and melody can enhance scenes and storytelling. No need to be perfect—just a willingness to jump in, listen, and have fun creating something entirely in the moment.

Longform Track

Long form improv offers a chance to slow things down and build something bigger. Instead of quick games, performers focus on developing characters, relationships, and patterns that unfold over time. For those on the comedy path, it’s an opportunity to sharpen instincts, trust the process, and discover how patience and commitment can lead to some of the most rewarding laughs.

Long Form Master Certificate The Long Form Master Certificate recognizes deep study of long-form formats — Harold, Armando, narrative structures, and beyond. You've developed the patience, structural awareness, and deep listening that long-form demands.

Masterclasses

Deep-dive sessions with guest teachers and working performers. Sharpen specific skills, explore new styles, and expand your improv toolkit beyond the curriculum.

Advanced Short Form

You don't fear professional engagment, professional engagment anxiety fears you. Your coworkers will wish they had half your confidence and wit. Your superiors will worry you are a better manager than they are.

Level 4

Advanced Short Form

By level 4, hopefully you feel that showing up, playing together, and spending time around the theater feels like the norm. For many students, this becomes a consistent social outlet—whether that’s sticking around after class, catching shows, or just having a group of people you genuinely enjoy being around. Good Friend Theater is also focused on creating more events for people to come to beyond improv and comedy and we encourage our graduate students to bring their own ideas for shows and events to the table.

Ready to share the stage? Auditions for our ensemble shows are open to Level 3 graduates. This is where you officially become part of the company.

GFT Front of House Staff

Join the crew that brings Good Friend Theater to life. Front of house volunteers are the first face of the show — greeting guests, running the floor, and deepening their connection to the community.

HSI Improv classes are a breath of fresh air I didn't realize how badly was needed. It has expanded so much of my social, personal, and mental well being and are the best part of my week. They offer a safe, supportive space where curiosity flourishes into comedy.

Go here if you are serious about being funny. You will receive a comprehensive education in improv by wonderful teachers who constantly work to improve their own improv as well. It has been one of the greatest things I could have done for getting out of my shell and having fun. [My instructors] excelled at finessing the improv of my classmates and I wish there were more levels to take, this place really lit an improv fire for me!

H2B Engineering | Design teamed with [Houston School of Improv] to add more tools to our communication toolbelt. Empathy, connection, trust, quick thinking, and striving for excellence (not perfection) were a few things we worked on in our session. A joyful experience that breaks the mold of continuing education in the workplace!

The theater kinda saved my life, tbh. It gave me a safe place to go when life got too hard and I knew that inside that building were people who cared for and accepted me for who I am.

Performing regularly with a team—like the ComedySportz Houston cast—offers the chance to sharpen instincts, build consistency, and develop a deeper understanding of the craft. With weekly shows and rehearsals, it’s one of the most effective and rewarding ways to keep improving while doing what you love.

Sunday Stories

Storytelling is a foundational skill across nearly every form of communication, where structure, clarity, and perspective drive engagement. The practice of storytelling can level up proffesional skills by helping speakers with organizing ideas, shaping narratives, and delivering messages with intention—skills that translate directly to presentations, leadership communication, and professional interactions. Great speakers can communicate more clearly, connect with their audience, and leave a lasting impression.

Improv for Anxiety

A standalone workshop using improv games to ease nerves, build presence under pressure, and develop confidence in unexpected situations. One session, real impact.
